Obituary for Richard E Steinheim

Richard E. Steinheim, 94, of Spring Lake passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living at Wall.
Richard was born and raised in Irvington, graduating from Irvington High School before entering the US Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Navy and then was transferred to the US Marine Corps serving the CeeBee’s.
He had resided in Newark following Irvington and then relocated to his home in Spring Lake in 1959 where he lived until the time of his passing.

After his honorable discharge, he went on to serve the Newark Fire Department as a firefighter until his retirement. Following his military service, he went on to a life of volunteerism for both civic and military service groups. He was a founding and lifetime member of the VFW Post # 1851, Newark and had served as the Post Commander, he also served in the 1st Marine Division Association. He was also recently inducted in to the WWII Museum in Washington, DC.
He was on the Board of Directors of NJASTA, had served as the Lieutenant Governor for the NJ Kiwanis Club and had served as the Secretary for the Manasquan Kiwanis Club.
As a Spring Lake resident, he was a life member of member of Spring Lake Fire Department #1, a member of the Board of Trustees and the oldest surviving member of the Spring Lake Fire Department #1.
He also was the Secretary/Treasurer of Allaire Travel, the agency he operated along with this late wife Evelyn.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Evelyn Burnett Steinheim in August 2008, parents Louis and Catherine Rudat Steinheim, his brother Emil, and his 2 sisters Catherine Stanley and Carolyn Kenyon.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Lisa Steinheim-Adams and husband Cliff Adams of Spring Lake Heights and his sister Mildred Evans of Brick.
In keeping with his wishes, all services will be private with inurnment in the Columnbarium at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown Borough (Arneytown).
