Obituary for Dorothy "Dot" DeSio (Oakes)

Dorothy DeSio, 90, of the Clearwater Village community, Spotswood, N.J., died peacefully on Thursday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, N.J.
Born and raised on Staten Island, N.Y., Dot resided there before moving to Clearwater Village in Spotswood in 1991. She retired in 1997 after 44 years as a Keypunch Supervisor in the SIAC division of the New York Stock Exchange.
Dot was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Old Bridge. She ran Bingo in Clearwater Village for 8 years, retiring in 2008. She also enjoyed Bowling and Bocce.
The highlight of her life was her grandchildren and she could never do enough for them. She made a point of weekly visits continuing the tradition with her Great Grandchildren.
Devoted to her daughter, Nancy, she was a forerunner to today’s working Mother balancing it all.
Dot was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Walsh, and her siblings Genevieve Hemmes, Grace Hambley and William Oakes.
She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Keeley, Staten Island, N.Y. and her son-in-law Daniel Walsh, Wall. She was the loving Grandmother of Heather Herbert and her husband Michael Herbert, Daniel Walsh and his wife Karen Walsh and Timothy Walsh and Great Grandmother of Katelyn Walsh, Dylan Herbert and Michael Herbert and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, 3-7 PM, at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 12 PM at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Neptune.
