Obituary for Harry Hanson

Harry Hanson, 94, of Greenbriar in Brick, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2014 at The Chelsea in Brick. Born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Harry and Anna Hanson, he was raised in Bayside, New York, where he resided until 2001 when he moved to New Jersey. Mr. Hanson was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served as a Chief Radar Operator during World War II. He went on to work as a salesman for Bayuk Cigar Company.
Harry was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greenbriar, volunteering his time for various causes like Meals on Wheels and delivering groceries to local food banks. Prior to becoming ill, he was active in the Greenbriar community, helping to distribute the monthly newsletter, taking ceramics classes, and playing pool and bocce.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Peterson Hanson, in 2001, and his sister, Dorothy Jennings in 2009.
Surviving are his daughter Margaret Gwynne and husband Bruce and his grandchildren, Kate Wuchter and Christopher Gwynne.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 12:00 to 4:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A funeral service will follow at 4:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harry’s memory to the American Red Cross.
