Obituary for Louis J. Meo
Louis J. Meo, 91, of Howell, formerly of Staten Island and Toms River, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ.
Mr. Meo served in the US Army during World War II in the 66th Signal Air Warfare Detachment as a Radar Operator. He worked for the US Postal Service as a Postal Supervisor in Staten Island until he retired in 1980. He was also a past President of the American Legion Merrill Post, a member of the Italian American Club in Bayville, Treasurer of the Beachwood Men’s Club, and attended the Senior Center in Howell. He was a parishioner of St. Roch’s Church in Staten Island where he was President of the Holy Name Society, St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River, and St. William the Abbot Church in Howell where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Born and raised in Manhattan, he lived in Queens, Staten Island, and Toms River before moving to Howell ten years ago.
Louis is predeceased by his wife Jeanne; his parents, John and Bettina Meo; and sisters Frances Stella, Felicia Leahy, and Josephine Persico. Surviving are his loving daughter and son-in-law, Bettina and Thomas Blom of Howell; three grandchildren, Colin Blom and his wife Eileen, Andrea Stengele and her husband Michael, and Alexandra Blom; great-grandchildren Matthew Joseph and Benjamin Louis Blom; and sister, Carmella Romanello of Maspeth, NY. He was affectionately known as “Grandpa” to many. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visiting will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home,505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday September 4th at St. William the Abbot Church in Howell. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.
