Obituary for Moritz J. "Marty" Hahner Jr.

Moritz J. “Marty” Hahner, Jr., 83, of Brick, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Ocean Medical Center.
Mr. Hahner was born and raised in Jersey City. He was a resident of Union for many years before coming to Brick in 1992. He was a proud alumnus of Rutgers University, and was the Manager of Employee Benefits for PSE&G, Newark, for many years, before retiring. It was at PSE&G where he met a co-worker, Joan Gundlach, whom he married in 1955, and they were together until she died in 2012. He was a member of the Jaycees and of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Irvington. He was a hospice volunteer, an AARP Driving Safety Instructor, an active member of the Meridian Life Fitness Center in Point Pleasant, and also volunteered at Island Beach State Park. He and his wife were world travelers, and he was an accomplished woodworker, and enjoyed fishing, boating, painting, gardening and the Lakewood Blueclaws.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hahner was predeceased by his five siblings. He is survived by his son Douglas F. Hahner and his partner Gary, of Belmar, his son and daughter-in-law, Scott D. and Karen Hahner, of Mountainside, and his daughter and son-in-law, Gail E. and Gary Orlowski, of Branchburg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren and Zachary Orlowski, and Jennifer and Sean Hahner.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Friday, November 21, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 9:30 A.M., followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Hahner’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
