Obituary for Emma R. Appleman

Emma R.  Appleman
Emma R. Appleman, 94, of Avon-by-the-Sea, passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Irmelshausen, Germany, Emma met her husband George while he was stationed in Germany in the US Army, and upon their return to the US, they began their family in Jersey City. Emma was employed by the Jersey City Board of Education, but her true devotion was to her family – she was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Emma was predeceased by her husband George in 1972, her son Dennis in 1991, her sister Laura Liessner and her brother Robert Schuch. She is survived by her her son John & his wife Donna with whom she lived with in Avon-by-the-Sea, her daughter Barbara Schwemmlein & her husband Horst of Lake George, New York, her daughter in law Barbara Zuppa of Sinking Springs, Pennsylvania. Her true joy was her seven grandchildren Eric, Christian, Katie, Julia, Anna, Gregory, and Emma, and six great grandchildren, Darian, Nathan, Mason, Cameron, Aubrey and Kylie. She is also survived by her sisters Klothildea Kern and Inge Funk both of whom reside in Rothausen, Germany.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, from 4-8pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11am at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
