Elizabeth B. Sullivan, 87, of Spring Lake, N.J. died Friday, December 19, 2014, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, N.J.
Mrs. Sullivan was born in Asbury Park and lived in Short Hills before moving to Spring Lake 28 years ago.
She graduated from St. Rose High School, Belmar, and the Juilliard School, in New York. A professional singer and actress, she performed at Carnegie Hall and for many years at the Paper Mill Playhouse, Millburn. She had also worked as a realtor in Short Hills.
An important part of her life was the founding of and participation in the St. Mark’s Church Choir. A faithful parishioner of St. Mark’s, she was a longtime member of its Altar-Rosary Society.
Betsy was predeceased by her husband, James J. Sullivan, in 1986 and one of their sons, Bruce, who died in 1995.
She is survived by her sons Craig Sullivan, Newport Beach, CA and David Sullivan, Glassboro, N.J. and her daughters Mary Beth Gawenus and her husband, David, West Orange, N.J. and Suzanne Sullivan, New Providence, N.J. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Cummings, Wall, N.J. Betsy was the loving Grandmother of Sean, Erin, Patrick, and Ryan Sullivan, David and Mark Gawenus, and Madeleine, Max and Harry LaPlanche.
Visitation will be Monday, December 22, 2014, from 4-7 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 AM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, N.J. Interment will follow at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
