Obituary for Eugene Carmody

Eugene J. Carmody, 80, of Collegeville, PA, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Elizabeth NJ to the late John and Margaret Carmody, he went on to graduate from Johns Hopkins University and served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Carmody was a lifelong resident of Roselle Park. Dedicated to the community, he was active with the Chamber of Commerce, and was elected to Council before being elected as the Mayor of Roselle Park for ten years.

He also served as a Union County Freeholder for one term Mr. Carmody served on the Boards of Trustees and Governors at Union County College, where he was the Chairman of Building and Grounds. Eugene spent his career with Western Electric (now Alcatel Lucent) as a manager for 38 years before his retirement in 1990. Always a proponent of education, he taught as an adjunct professor in the Business Department of Kean University for 13 years. He served on the Trinitas Hospital Foundation; where his experience and insight played a key role in planning. He was a former resident of Point Pleasant, most recently moving to Collegeville, PA. Eugene enjoyed ski trips with his friend Art, traveling, gardening and spending quality time with his family.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 44 years, Rosemary McDevitt Carmody, his loving nephews and niece, Gary Carmody and wife Kathy, Jack Carmody and wife Peggy, George Carmody and wife Beverly, and Kathy Carmody Magliaro and husband Steve, his five great-nephews, Jim and Marilyn Connell, their five daughters and spouses, and their thirteen grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:30AM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Bay Head. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
