Obituary for Eileen M. Brophy (Mayers)

Eileen Mayers Brophy, age 91, long time resident of Spring Lake, N.J., passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015, surrounded by her family. Eileen was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and moved to Belleville, N.J. at an early age. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1941 and also from Newark School for Secretaries in 1943. Eileen first worked for the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark and played for their womens basketball team. Three years later she started working for Railway Express Agency and continued in railroad employment until her retirement in 1984.
Eileen was a gentle and caring soul, full of life, love, passion and encouragement. One of her passions was baking and cooking meals for family and friends with the promise of singing and harmonizing along with the guitar.
She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Brophy, in 1998. She was also predeceased by her father, Perry B. Mayers, her mother, Nora A. Kelly Mayers and three siblings, Perry, Dorothy and Peg.
Her greatest joys in life were her sons and daughters, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Surviving are two sons, William J. Brophy and his wife Paula, of Keller, TX, and John Brophy and wife Susan Teschner, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and three daughters, Eileen Bernice and husband Chuck of Tinton Falls, NJ, Kathleen Degrassie and husband Damon of Point Pleasant, NJ and Dorothy Dwyer and husband Todd of Lake Como, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Zach), Carolyn (Neil), Pam (Allen), Jaclyn , Jessica (Mike), Lauren (Frank), Morgan, Cassandra, Kaitlin, Billy, Joshua, Tyler, Calan, and great grandchildren Lauren, Gage, Corey, Cole, Jade, Frank, Henry, Gavin, Matthew, Megan, Dylan and Ava. She leaves one sibling, Mitzi Caruso and a sister- in- law Eleanor Mayers and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
