Obituary for Ellen A Romano (Cestone)

Ellen A Romano (Cestone)
Ellen A. Romano (nee Cestone), 84, of Brick, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at home where her family was able to spend her last days with her.
She was born August 24, 1930 in Newark, NJ, where she lived, met and married “her” Mario in 1949. Eventually they moved to Bloomfield where they raised their family. In later years they moved to
Belleville before settling in Brick in 1998.
Over the years, she was employed outside the home at Prudential, Robert Halls, Royal Globe Insurance, and the Insurance Company of North America. However, her real career was being a wife and mother. She loved that job most of all. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Ellen loved to cook and could throw together a feast for many at any given time. There was always room for one more at her table. Whatever she made was excellent. She did have the knack for cooking and baking. She loved travelling and did so frequently before her husband, Mario passed in 2007. They went to a variety of places but their favorite was Las Vegas. They made many trips there with the “Las Vegas Crew” and also with other family members or just the two of them. Ellen also loved reading and especially enjoyed a good mystery.
She was very young at heart and was always very in-tune with the current trends. She loved texting with all of her children and grandchildren until her final days. Her youthful attitude kept her very close to her grandchildren. Each one of her children and grandchildren knew that she had a special place in her heart for them. Ellen had a tremendous sense of humor and you never knew when she was going to “bring the house down” with a witty, sometimes off-color, remark.
Our mother loved us all and we all loved her. There will forever be an empty spot in our hearts with her passing. She will be sadly missed here on earth but welcomed by her loving husband, Mario, and all her family and friends that have gone before her to heaven.
Ellen was predeceased in death by the love of her life, her husband, Mario Romano who passed in 2007 after 58 years of marriage. Her beloved parents, Luigi and Antoinette Cestone, her siblings, Thomas and James Cestone, Chancey Bertucci, Josephine Mercuro, Virginia Giammarino and Eva Nascone have also gone before her.
She leaves behind three children. Sons, Richard (& Rosanne) Romano, Steven (& Kim) Romano, and daughter, Laura D’Innocenzio; seven grandchildren, Richard (& Rosa) Romano, Joseph (& Amy) Romano, Dana (& Eric) Lightner, Steven Romano, Cami (& Dominick) Astino, Ellen D’Innocenzio, and James (& Danielle) Romano; her eight special “angels”, her great grandchildren – Christopher, Sophia, Vincent, Lyla, Danica, Alexa, Jason, Daxton, and one more on the way. Ellen also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick on Monday at 10am followed with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
