Obituary for Edward A. Delaney

Edward A. Delaney, Jr., 89, of Neptune, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
Mr. Delaney was born and raised in Cliffside Park. He lived in North Bergen for many years before moving to Neptune 24 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the North Bergen Police Department for 28 years, before retiring as a Captain in 1989. He was a member of the North Bergen P.B.A., the American Legion Post 346, in Neptune, and a former member of the Elks Lodge #2534. He enjoyed vacationing in Maine, golf, and was an avid reader, but above all else, was a devoted family man.
Mr. Delaney was predeceased by his son, Bryan Delaney and by his sisters, Lillian Horvath, Marion Givens and Dorothy Horton. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife JoAnn, his daughter Sharon, his sons Michael, Kevin, Edward, Hank and Dave and their wives, his sister Joan Sullivan, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, from 5-8:30 P.M. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at 10 A.M., followed by entombment, with military honors, at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Association, 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701-9978.
