Obituary for Wilbur "Bill" Lauer

Wilbur "Bill"  Lauer
Wilbur “Bill” Lauer, World War II veteran, 96, of Brick, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2015 at his home. Born in Newark, to the late Madeline and William Lauer, he was raised in Irvington, and resided in the Vailsburg section, before moving to Brick in 1970. He was a devoted family man, and was loved by everyone who knew him.
Bill served during World War II from 1941-1945 in Ireland, England, France, and Belgium; attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. He received four ribbons and service medals for ground action in the Ardennes. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8867, George Vandeme American legion Post 129 of Toms River, and the Old Guard of Point Pleasant. He was also a 70 year member of the FAM Scottish Rite. Bill retired as Supervisor from Ocean County Utilities Authority at the age of 78. He was a member of the Brick Presbyterian Church, Brick, NJ.
Bill was preceded death by his loving wife and best friend Nora in February of 2003. They met and married in Liverpool, England. They had been married for 58 years when Nora passed away.
Surviving are his two sons, Kenneth and wife Patricia of Bloomfield, and Robert and wife Dawn of Brick, NJ, and his three cherished grandchildren, Kelly, Dave, and Ryan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. Prayer service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Brick Presbyterian Church, 111 Drum Point Road, Brick. Interment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wilbur’s name to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
