Obituary for Margaret M. Tomkins (McMahon)

Margaret Marie (McMahon) Tomkins, 91, of Brick, NJ, formerly of Bergenfield, NJ, passed away November 21, 2015. "Peggy" succumbed to Alzheimer's and breast cancer. She was with her loving family all day. Margaret was known as "Peggy" to her friends; Aunt Peggy to her niece; "Pal" to her godson John; Mom to Deborah; Grandma to Ryan; and Great Grandma to Mackenzie. She always had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor.
Peggy was an avid Yankee fan and she loved her music, the likes of Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, and the Big Bands. She loved shopping with her daughter Deborah. In retirement years in Brick, Peggy enjoyed playing golf, rummy cubes with "the girls", and many excursions to Atlantic City.
Her favorite vacation spot was Hawaii, with the love of her life, her husband Al (RIP). Disney World with her daughter Deborah and Grandson Ryan, Al and niece Cathy ranked high on the list as well, along with trips to Florida to visit her sister Eileen. Many Christmases and other trips were spent in North Myrtle Beach visiting her sister Mae and brother-in-law John.
The last 8 years of her life, after Al died, were spent at The Haven at Shorrock Gardens. Both the staff and the residents became an extended family. She enjoyed dinners out with her daughter and son-in-law Lou, and occasional trips to the beach to watch a sunset. At The Haven, Peggy became known as the "Cookie Monster" for her love of sweets.
Peggy often asked "to go home" as many Alzheimer's patients do. She is finally "home" with her husband Al and her deceased family. I bet she is smiling and hugging those who have been waiting for her. May she rest in peace and love forever and ever until we meet again.
Peggy is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Deborah; son-in-law Louis Coco; grandson Ryan Carroll and his wife Kaitlin; great grand-daughter Mackenzie; niece Cathy Pellek; nephew/godson John Hendrickson and his wife Beth, and their daughter Emily and son Nicholas; and a sister-in-law Persis Tomkins.
In lieu of flowers, Peggy's family would appreciate any donations made to the Alzheimer's Association or Caring Hospice in Edison, NJ.
A memorial service will be held on December 1st (Tuesday), from 4-6pm at O'Brien Funeral Home, Brick, NJ.
