Obituary for Emile A. NeJame

Emile Anthony NeJame, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, resident of the Borough of Spring Lake, NJ died April 26, 2016 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, after suffering a long illness. A decades-long resident on the Jersey Shore, Emile was born in Binghamton, NY to the late Fareed B. and Nancy Mandour NeJame. He was a graduate of Cornell University, with a B.S. (1956) majoring in Government, in addition to earning his MBA degree (1957) at the Johnson School of Management at Cornell. On August 24, 1958, he married Rosalind Betros in Poughkeepsie, NY. She survives at home after caring for her husband for many years. Emile was a member of St. Catharine's - St. Margaret's Parish and worked for much of his career in the finance and banking industry in New York City. Emile worked for over two decades at the Bankers Trust Company, eventually becoming Chief Financial Officer. He then joined the investment banking firm of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Inc., where he was a Senior Vice President responsible for M&A and capital raising for banks, thrifts and other depository institutions. Before retiring in 1992, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Constellation Bancorp.
Emile was a member of the Budget Executive's Institute and the Bank Administration Institute, where he also chaired the Accounting Commission. He was a Trustee at Adelphi Academy and an advisory board member of the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. He was also a member of the Finance Council and Parish Council at St. Catherine's - St. Margaret's Parish in Spring Lake, including acting as Parish Council President. While living in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Emile was also an active member of the Salaam Club of New York, a cultural fraternal organization among men of Middle Eastern descent
Emile also served on active duty in the US Army, receiving his commission as a 1st Lt., graduating from the Army Security Agency School at Ft. Devens, MA. He served in the Army Reserves for 23 years, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel, while in the 77th Army Reserve Command where, among other positions held, he was the Inspector General.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Rosalind, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kina of New York, NY, daughters and sons-in-laws Elaine and Jeffrey Prickel of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Melanie and Ronald Ash of Tiburon, CA, Marie and Alan Hack of Old Bridge, NJ and Jennifer and Kenneth Sypal of Vienna, VA. His sisters Sonia Yuspeh, Sally Forzley and Elaine Betros predeceased him. Additionally, he is survived by his nineteen grandchildren, Nicholas (and his wife Lurit), Rosalind (and her husband Ronnie), Richard, Helene, Michael, Veronica, Rebecca, Bernadette, Renée, Mark, James, Liam, Brian, Elizabeth, Joseph, Clare, Rose, Luke and Anna.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 2:00 - 6:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Route 35, Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 2, 2016 10:30am at St. Catharine Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Burial will be in St. Catharine Cemetery in Sea Girt, NJ.
