Obituary for Frederick Lyons Burns Sr.

Frederick Lyons Burns Sr., 86 of Spring Lake Heights passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 with his beloved family at his bedside.
Fred was born and raised in Point Pleasant and had resided in Spring Lake Heights for the past 61 years. As a resident of Spring Lake Heights, Fred was a member of St. Catharine – St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake.
He was employed as a Principal Highway Inspector for the N. J. Department of Transportation.
Retired from the N. J. Army National Guard with the rank Command Sergeant Major, Fred served 40 years before becoming a volunteer at the National Guard Museum in Sea Girt.
His parents, Martin and Margaret Lyons Burns and his two brothers Martin J. II and Robert J. Burns predeceased him.
Frederick is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Barbara Lewis Burns, his devoted children and their spouses: Frederick L. Jr. and Rose of Brick, William L. and Robin of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary C. and Charles May of Forked River, Stephen R. and Christine of Spring Lake, and Amy Burns Campbell of Marlton, and his grandchildren Charles and wife Nicole, Matthew, Christine, Caitlin, Jessica, Megan, Stephen, Thomas, Caroline, Katherine, Trevor, Christopher and his great granddaughter Alexandra.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday May 2, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake. Please go directly to the Church on Tuesday morning. Private cremation will be at the convenience of the family.
