Agnes M. Schlegel, 86, of Brick, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016.
Mrs. Schlegel was born and raised in Middle Village, Queens. She later resided in Bridgewater, N.J. for 30 years, where she raised her family, before retiring to Greenbriar, Brick, 15 years ago. She was a graduate of Resurrection Ascension High School and St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, both in Queens. She was a Registered Nurse at Somerset Medical Center for 25 years, prior to retiring. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage, and in retirement, traveled extensively. While living in Bridgewater, she was a member of the Rosary Society at Holy Trinity Church, and volunteered at St. Anne School, Raritan, which her children attended. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Schlegel was predeceased by her parents, Matthew and Catherine (Clarke) Crehan, and by her sister, Catherine Mulvey. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ronald A. Schlegel, and by her children and their spouses, Donna and Sam Cameroni, Karen and Steve Becker, Ron and Virginia Schlegel, Darrin Schlegel, and Laura and Garry Forsythe. She is also survived her by her grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, Chiara, Amanda, Erin, Rachel, Dillon and Austin, and her great-grandson, Declan, as well as by other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic Church, Brick, on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 10 AM, followed by burial at the N.J. Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Schlegel’s memory may be made to “The Belize Mission”, care of The Catholic University of America.
