Obituary for Richard Plunkett

Richard Plunkett
Richard P. Plunkett, 88, of Brick, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Plunkett was born in Drogehda, Co. Louth, Ireland. He came to America as a child, and grew up in Newark, where he met his wife Janet. After serving in the Army Air Force, he became a proud American citizen. He lived in various towns before coming to Brick in 1979. He was a Gold Seal Operating Engineer with Local 68, of Caldwell, for 48 years. He enjoyed building furniture, gardening, and was an avid reader. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. Integrity, dignity, veteran, craftsman, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and role model… the list goes on and on. The world lost a truly great man.
Mr. Plunkett is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Janet (nee Boehmer). He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Christopher Plunkett and Christine Svensson, of Brick, Richard and Deidra Plunkett, of Conway, SC, Susan Cowan Mallon and Thomas Mallon, Esq., of Brick, Michael and Katherine Plunkett of Shark River Hills, James and Linda Plunkett, of Brick, and Patricia and Randy Krivanek, of Brick. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, cousins, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Plunkett, and his sister, Mildred Flynn.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. A funeral service led by Richard’s cousin, Msgr. Joseph Plunkett, will be held at 5:00 PM. Cremation will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Plunkett’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
