John Raymond Valerio 73 of Manasquan, NJ died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at his home. Born in New York, NY, John lived in Westfield, NJ before moving to Manasquan in 1989. John graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep, Newark, NJ and Northern Michigan University. He was a NJ State power-lifting champion, and he played semi-pro football. For the past 21 years, John taught and coached track and field at St. Benedict’s Prep.
John loved the beach and boogie boarding. He was an avid NY Giants Football fan and was a season ticket holder for over 50 years. He attended St. Denis Church, Manasquan, NJ.
John was predeceased by his parents, Ann and Raymond Valerio. Surviving are his sister Jean Stewart, his brother Joseph Valerio, 6 nieces and nephews; John, Scott, Stephanie, Courtney, Brian and Caroline, and 5 grand nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, from 6-9 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass will be held Thursday, 11 AM at St. Benedict’s Prep, 520 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Newark, NJ. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
