Obituary for George Francis Doby

George Francis Doby, age 96, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 at his home in Mantoloking. Born and raised in Newark, he raised his family in Union while maintaining a residence in Mantoloking for the last 47 years.
George was the Director of Purchasing for Exxon Research and Engineering for 30 years before becoming President and CEO of 3G Consulting. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Mr. Doby was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America in Union, NJ and served on the Executive Council of Boy Scouts of Union County. He was the recipient of the Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver Awards.
George was a member of Holy Name Society and was an Usher at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bay Head for over 40 years.
George was a devoted family man who was so very proud of his children as well as his grandchildren. He adored being surrounded by his large family whether at home or vacationing together. Nothing made him happier than to see the smiles on his grandchildren’s faces when they were together. As an avid traveler he and his wife Mildred traveled the world together creating beautiful and lasting memories. As a man of reverence and respect, the Lord held a special place in George’s heart. He will be truly missed but loved and remembered forever.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Mildred Hofmann Doby of Mantoloking; his sons, Gregory J. Doby and his wife, Kathryn of West Windsor and George G. Doby and his wife, Linda of Lynchburg, VA; his daughter, Anne B. Weber and her husband, Joseph of Union; his eight grandchildren, Eric and Meredith Doby, Allyson Blythin, Elizabeth, Mark and George Doby, Rebecca Samples and Emily Weber; and his two great grandchildren, Marie Blythin and Adalind Samples.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd at Highway 70, Brick, NJ 08724. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bay Head. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choosing in George’s name.
