Katherine Lavin, 79, of Spring Lake, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017.
Mrs. Lavin (nee Devlin) was born and raised in Manhattan, and graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School. She lived in Glen Rock, N.J. for many years, where she raised her family, before moving to Spring Lake 20 years ago. She was a homemaker, a member of the Spring Lake Women’s Club, and a former member of the Glen Rock Junior Women’s Club. She was a lifelong Yankee fan, and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She belonged to the Knitwits, a group that crocheted blankets and caps for veterans and babies.
Mrs. Lavin is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Thomas J. Lavin, and by her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jamie Lavin, of California, and Martin and Nancy Lavin, of New Hampshire. She was the loving grandmother of Timothy, Thomas and Matthew Lavin. She is also survived by her brothers, Daniel and Martin Devlin, of the Bronx, and her in-laws, James Lavin, and Barbara and Jim Tomany, as well as by nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Priscilla Heatherton.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, Spring Lake, on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 10:30 AM, followed by entombment at St. Catharine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Lavin’s memory may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 2 Princess Rd., Ste. D, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
