Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Francis Hayes can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Francis B Hayes Jr.

Francis B. Hayes Jr. 92, of Manasquan, NJ died Saturday, October 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Francis was predeceased by his loving wife Jean Marie Hayes in 2013. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Francis was a caring, thoughtful, supportive, encouraging man with a positive attitude, who always put others first. His sharp mind, quick wit, sense of humor and strong faith in God were just a few of the qualities that made him a role model to everyone he met.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, Francis grew up in East Orange before living in Colonia and moving to Manasquan 23 years ago. He served in the US Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war. He was a member of the US Army Ground Forces Association, Fort Hancock, where in 2016 he was promoted to honorary Sergeant. Francis was an active parishioner of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. He worked as an Architectural Millwork Estimator until his retirement. Francis and his wife Jean enjoyed many wonderful years working together at Randolph Galleries in Spring Lake Hts.
In addition to his loving wife, Francis was predeceased by his sister Ruth Hayes. Surviving are his children: Barbara Barron & husband Jerry of Howell, Suzanne Rucinski & husband Dave of New Providence, Glenn Hayes & wife Colleen of Rahway, Marypat Rickert & husband Gary of Bayville, his brother Ray Hayes, his sister-in-law Margaret Oates and his brother-in-law Frank Vogt. He also leaves 10 grandchildren: Diane Marie, Mark, Bryan, Matthew, Laura, Michael, Glenn David, Owen, Christopher, Kellyanne and 8 great grandchildren: Patrick, Caroline, Grace, Stella, Lila, Ryan, Jack and Ireland.
Visiting will be today, from 4-8 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, 9:30 AM at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt, entombment will follow in St. Anne Cemetery, Wall. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Covenant House (www.covenanthouse.org.)
