Obituary for David McWilliam

David McWilliam, 87, of Point Pleasant passed away on December 15, 2017 after a couragous battle with prostate cancer. David was married for 63 years to the late Lois McWilliam. He enjoyed dancing every night on the boardwalk from Asbury Park to Point Pleasant.

David was a member and Treasurer of the Knox Presbyterian Church, Kearny. David was also an active member and former Secretary of the Point Pleasant Elks Lodge #1698. He also served as Auditor for the Elks Southeast District. He enjoyed playing shuffle board on Thursday nights at the lodge and was a member of many committees.

David retired as the Deputy Commissioner of Banking for the State of New Jersey after over 28 years of service. He was a very proud veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army. He was recently honored as one of the oldest living veterans of the Point Pleasant Elks Lodge.

David was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife Lois, his parents James and Alice, his sister Janet Fleming and brother Jimmy. Surviving are his sons David (Kathryn) of Long Beach Island, NJ, Bruce of Manassas, VA and grandchildren Justin (Kate), Laura (Ralph), Jennifer (Josh), Jaclyn (Anthony), Katie (Mike), Sarah (Evan), and Colleen. Also surviving him is sister Isabelle Blackwood of Arlington Heights, IL, sister in law Jeannie Dolce of Brick, NJ, brother in law Jimmy Alexander (Mary Ann) of Florida, and James Harvey Alexander of Massachusetts. David also leaves behind 23 special nieces and nephews, and many friends and family around the entire country. He has been also blessed to have spent the past number of years with special friend Sharon Haugh of Point Pleasant, NJ.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 17, from 3:00-6:00PM with an Elks Service at 5:30PM honoring David at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, NJ. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Point Pleasant Elks #1698 or the charity of your choice.
