Obituary for Henry T. Johnson

Henry T.  Johnson
Henry Thomas Johnson died on Friday, December 29, 2017 in Neptune, NJ at the age of 80. Born in Brooklyn, NY. Henry married the former Patricia Ann Manning on April 25, 1959. He graduated from St. John's Preparatory School and St. John’s University in 1958 with a degree in history. He also did graduate work at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Upon graduation, Henry worked for the Grand Union Company. He began his career in its management training program and worked his way up to Executive Vice President HIs career led him to posts in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. He retired from Grand Union in 1989 and pursued other small business and consulting ventures. He and Pat retired to Naples, Florida in 1997 and remained there until 2016. Most recently, they lived in Tinton Falls, NJ.
Henry was a man of tremendous faith, zest for life, and dedication to his family. His other great joys in life were his friends, his home in Culver Lake, NJ, fishing, walking, baseball (NY Mets), college basketball, and horse racing.
Henry was awarded Man of the Year by the New York State Food Merchants Association in 1987. He served as a Eucharistic minister and dedicated volunteer for St. John the Evangelist Church in Naples FL.
Henry is survived by loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia, his children, Michael A. Johnson, Patricia Johnson (Christopher) Amato, Ann Marie Johnson, and Susan Johnson (Christopher) Doyle; his brother James; sisters Cathleen and Barbara; and beloved grandchildren Shelby Grace Johnson, Bryce Manning Johnson, Matthew Joseph Amato, Thomas James Amato, Maxwell Duffy Doyle, and Quinn Julia Doyle. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ernest and Catherine (Conway) Johnson.
A viewing will be held on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 3-5pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall, NJ. A funeral mass will take place at 10am on Tuesday, January 2 at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune, NJ. Committal will follow in St. Anne Cemetery, Wall.
