Obituary for Mark P. Roth

Mark P. Roth, 37 of Point Pleasant passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

Mark was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he spent his early childhood before relocating to the United States as a teenager, settling in Wall Twp. Mark graduated Wall Township High School in 1998 and then went on to study Business at Rutgers University. Mark began his career in the restaurant business by tending bar at many local establishments such as O’Neill’s, Ship Wreck Grill and Piccola Italia. From there he became a partner to the successful Bistro by the Beach located in Spring Lake before branching out on his own to open Firefly Oceanside located in Point Pleasant Beach. Mark was well known for his kind heart and infectious smile; someone that would go out of his way to make a person feel welcome or to help a friend in need. But he is best known for his devotion and love as a father to his precious “Punky”. Simple moments of sharing ice cream, taking her to the park or watching the Yankee game made him the happiest. She was the true light of his life and his greatest achievement.

Mark was predeceased by his parents Erich Roth and Janice Roth (nee VanNote).

He is survived by his beloved daughter Penelope Roth and her mother and love of his life Erin Nielsen of Point Pleasant; the entire Nielsen family as well as his second family, the Gwynne’s of Point Pleasant, in particular his best friend and Penelope’s Godfather, Christopher Gwynne of Hoboken and many other close friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall.
