Obituary for Vincent John Barry

Vincent John  Barry
Vincent John Barry, 91 of The Arbors, Spring Lake Heights and a longtime resident of Sea Girt passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Barry was the Chief Executive and Founder of US Aerolease, New York, NY and he had been involved in Aeronautical and Transportation based leasing for his entire working career.
Born at his home in Long Branch, NJ, he graduated from the Peddie School, attended the University of Virginia and Rutgers University. He had lived in Rutherford for many years and then relocated to Sea Girt where he raised his large loving family. As a Sea Girt resident, Vincent was very active in St. Mark’s Parish, serving as a Trustee and Lector. He was also a private pilot and a member of The Wings Club, New York, NY.
Vincent was a proud veteran of the US Army Air Corps which was the predecessor of the US Air Force. He served as a Fighter Pilot during WWII, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. He had served in China, Burma and India and was made an Honorary Pilot by the Chinese Air Force. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 3 Clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Mr. Barry was predeceased by his dear wife Margaret M. (nee Sanford) Barry in 1997 and his son Peter T. Barry in 2007. Surviving are his devoted children and their spouses, Vincent J. Jr. and Cathy of Neptune, James P. and Esto of Rumson, Michael E. of Calabasas, Ca., Timothy K. and Laurie of Brielle, Daniel J. and Monica of Rockville, Md., Margaret (Meg) Cheer and husband Gordon of Manasquan, Sheila A. Rubio and husband Stephen of Roswell, Ga., his brother John (Jack) Barry and Helen of Upper Saddle River, NJ and his 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-5pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd. at Rt. 70, Brick, NJ, 08724. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 9:30 am at St. Mark’s RC Church, Sea Girt. Entombment will in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
