Obituary for Albert Joseph Clericuzio

Albert Joseph Clericuzio, age 82, passed away on October 9, 2020 at Ocean Medical Center. Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Clericuzio resided in Point Pleasant for the last 50 years. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University and his Masters in Horticulture from Iowa State University. Prior to his retirement, he was a passionate Science Educator at Cedar Ridge High School in Old Bridge, NJ as well as a Horticulturist and Staffer with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County.

Mr. Clericuzio was a longtime member of the Elks and Senior member of the Point Pleasant Boro Environmental Commission. He received special recognition and a plaque for his long-time years of service to environmental causes and his hard work and dedication to the Commission. Albert authored a 13-page pamphlet “What you Can do to Prevent Nonpoint Source Pollution in Point Pleasant” along with being the co-author of a 58-guidebook, “Low Maintenance Landscaping for the Barnegat Bay Watershed”. He was an active participant in many summer environmental conservation trips with the Audubon Society around the world. He was a Master Gardner and a member of the Master Gardner Association of the Ocean County as well as a member of the Point Pleasant Garden Club. Mr. Clericuzio was an avid fisherman; he was the First Vice President of the Shore Surf Club and co-chair for Annual Youth Fishing Tournament.

Aside from all of his interests and achievements, Albert was a devout Catholic. He was a longtime member of St. Martha’s RC Church, being one of the first Eucharistic Ministers there and a member of the church choir. He enjoyed traveling, loved his large, extended family, and his Italian heritage.

He is predeceased by his parents, Liberato and Maria Capone Clericuzio; his sisters, Gloria Latorraca, Virginia Maraguglio, Margaret Caruso, and Rose Ginasto. Surviving are his beloved wife, Eileen McElligott Clericuzio; sisters, Viola Serra and Cameille Wasilewski; sister in law, Judith Dougherty; nieces, Judy Dougherty-Morris (Craig), Eileen Kasiski (Robert), Janice Haus (Richard), Cindy Edelman (Rick), Gail Morris (Jim); nephews, Thomas Dougherty, Michael Dougherty (Lucy), James Latorraca (Francine), Thomas Latorraca, Mark Latorraca (Kelly), and a host of grand-nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 11 am at St. Martha’s RC Church, Point Pleasant.
