Obituary for Althea T. "Chick" Bormida (Cassidy)

Althea T. (nee Cassidy) Bormida, “Chick” as she was known to all who knew and loved her, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at her Brick Twp. home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Neptune to John P. and Violet M. (nee Burke) Cassidy, she had resided Spring Lake Heights for 45 years where she raised her large loving family. She then lived in Point Pleasant Boro before moving to Greenbriar I, Brick Twp. in 2007.

Chick was a proud alumna of St. Rose High School, Belmar and worked at Camp Evans after graduation. Later she had been employed at the Arbors, Spring Lake where she lovingly served in various positions for 28 years and thought of her co-workers as her extended family.

As a resident of Spring Lake Heights, she was a faithful Communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake and since living in Brick, she was a parishioner of the Church of St. Martha, Point Pleasant.

Chick was a devout member of the Catholic church and a faithful “prayer warrior”.

She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband John J. Bormida Jr, in 2009, her grandson John J. Bormida IV and her siblings James, Nora, Jack, and Eileen.

Surviving are her devoted children and their spouses John J. Bormida III and Deborah of Browns Mills, Kathleen and John Bogan of Point Pleasant, Gregory Bormida and Gerri of Toms River, Douglas Bormida and his partner Sherry Shuster of Matawan, Kevin Bormida and Claire of Spring Lake Heights, Lisa and John Monaco of Philadelphia,PA, and Joseph Bormida and Susan of Brigantine,12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10:30am in St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake. Inurnment will be private in St. Catharine’s Cemetery.

Please go directly to the Church on Saturday as there will not be a procession from the Funeral Home prior to the Mass.
