Obituary for Barbara L. Burns (Lewis )

Barbara L. Burns, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at her home in Spring Lake Heights.  Born and raised in Asbury Park, Barbara graduated from Asbury Park High School and went on to attend Monmouth College.  As a resident of Spring Lake Heights for the last 68 years, Barbara was a member of St. Catharine – St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge and being on the beach.  Barbara was an avid NY Giants and Mets fan.  When she was younger, Barbara played volleyball and loved bowling.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Frederick L. Burns, Sr. in 2016; her brother, Harold Lewis and her sisters, Dorothy Gardner and Mary Venner.

Surviving are her loving children and their spouses: Frederick L. Jr. and Rose of Brick, William L. and Robin of Jacksonville, Fla., Stephen R. and Christine of Spring Lake, Mary C. and Charles May of Forked River, and Amy Campbell of Marlton, and her 12 grandchildren Caitlin (Syg), Jessica, Megan, Trevor ( Morgan), Christopher, Charles (Nicole), Matthew, Christine (Tony), Stephen, Thomas, Katherine, and Caroline, and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, January 16th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake.  There will be no procession from the funeral home, so everyone is to meet directly at the Church.  Cremation is private.
