Benedict
J.
DePhillips
Benedict J. DePhillips, 81, of Brick Township, New Jersey, went home to be with his Lord on July 7, 2023. Born on July 9, 1941, in Newark, New Jersey, he spent over forty years in Point Pleasant Beach before settling in Brick Township for the past 16 years.
Ben dedicated 23 years of his professional career to Reuters News Service in New York City as a Commodity Tabulator. Following his time there, he worked for the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach, where he retired after 10 years of service.
While raising his children in Point Pleasant Beach, he enjoyed working with the town's youth. Ben's involvement extended to serving on the Recreation Committee of Point Pleasant Beach and presiding as the President of the Point Pleasant Beach Little League for 10 years. Baseball, particularly his beloved New York Yankees, held a special place in his heart. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and gathering around the table for family dinners.
Later in life, as a devout member of Fellowship Chapel in Point Pleasant and Brick Township, Ben looked forward to warmly greeting the faithful and new worshipers each and every Sunday.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Benedict R. DePhillips and Helen DePhillips, as well as his brothers, Fiori DePhillips and Ferdinand DePhillips. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marianne DePhillips of Brick; his daughter, Gina DePhillips and her husband, Robert Thompson of Titusville; his son, Ralph DePhillips and his wife, Jane DePhillips of Brick; and his three cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Thompson, Natalie DePhillips, and Victoria DePhillips. Additionally, he leaves behind many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial gathering to honor Benedict's life will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, located at 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 pm.
