Obituary for Betty Savage

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Savage of Wall Township, formerly of Jersey City, entered into eternal life on Monday, March 7, 2022. Betty was a Mathematics teacher for over 35 years within the New York City School System. She went on to become the chairperson of the Mathematics department at New Dorp High School, on Staten Island. 

Betty was a graduate of the college of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. Upon her retirement, she moved to Shark River Hills in Neptune Township before settling in Wall Township. Betty was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, Jersey City and upon moving to Wall Township she became a member of Holy Innocents Parish in Neptune, NJ.

She will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity by all who had the pleasure to make her acquaintance. She loved the fine arts, including ballet, theatre, and museums. Betty also enjoyed cooking, especially creating her own recipes. Betty loved to tell the stories of the various adventures she had throughout her long life, including epic trips throughout Europe with her sister and best friend Rita Savage.

She is predeceased by her sister Rita M. Savage, her brother Robert F. Savage and sister in law Mary Ann Savage.  She is survived by her 7 nieces, many great nieces and nephews as well as a slew of great great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 15 from 9-10:30 am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd, Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Holy Innocents Church, 3455 West Bangs Ave., Neptune, NJ 07753.
