Obituary for Carl E. Agliozzo MD

Carl E. Agliozzo M.D. 90 of Spring Lake, NJ died Friday, December 11, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Newark, NJ, Carl lived in Short Hills, NJ summered in Spring Lake since 1979 and moved to Spring Lake full time 21 years ago. He was a parishioner of St. Catharine and St. Margaret Church, Spring Lake where he was a Eucharistic Minister. Carl was a member of the Knights of Malta, Manasquan Elks and a volunteer at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center, Neptune. Carl was a graduate of Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, earned his doctorate at University of Bologna, Italy class of 1957. Carl did his internship at Jersey City Medical Center and residency at Ellis Hospital Schenectady, NY, Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY, Massachusetts General and Lahey Clinic Boston, MA. He was affiliated with the American Medical Assoc., New Jersey Medical Assoc. and the Essex County Medical Society. Carl had his private practice in Maplewood, NJ from 1962 to 2000. He was also employed by NJ Bell for 23.5 years as the company physician. He was a staff member at St. Mary’s Hospital in Orange, NJ from 1964-1989 and St. Barnabas Medical Center Livingston, NJ until his retirement in 2000. Carl was loved by the Sisters of the Felician Order at St. Mary’s Hospital. His patients adored him, and several patients have kept in touch with him up until the time of his death.
Carl was predeceased by his parents Fortunato and Gaetana Agliozzo, his sisters Emily Treccariche and Mary Fiorito. Surviving are his beloved wife Marie Rienzo Agliozzo, a daughter Christina O’Connor and her husband Michael of Westfield, NJ, Margaret Chapman and her partner Patrick Fox M.D. of Sea Girt, NJ, 6 grandchildren Michael Carl O’Connor, Christopher O’Connor, Matthew O’Connor, Andrew Chapman, Dean Chapman, Nicholas Chapman and their father John Chapman M.D.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 5-8 pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd, Wall. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, December 16, 2020, 10:30 am at St. Margaret Church, corner of 3rd and Ludlow Aves., Spring Lake. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl’s name to Knights of Malta Crudem Foundation, Inc. / Hôpital Sacré Coeur 362 Sewall Street PO Box 804 Ludlow, MA 01056.
