Obituary for Carol M. Sargent

Carol Sargent, née Scheper, entered the gates of heaven on December 24, 2022.  Born February 7, 1935, in Newark, NJ, Carol graduated Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington, and later earned her secretarial science certificate from Stuart School of Business. A lifelong New Jersey resident, Carol met her husband Alfred at the beach in Belmar. They married in June of 1957, and welcomed six children into their family. Carol was enormously proud of her children; but even more than her role as mother, she relished the title of Nana to her sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

After retiring from JCP&L as a secretary, Carol used her skills at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and later at Growing Faith Church.  She enjoyed and will be remembered for her faith in Jesus as her Savior, her talent for creating Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, her card playing prowess, and her volunteer days as Cub Scout Den Mother and at Allaire Village.

Predeceased by her parents, August and Mildred (Reitemeyer) Scheper; brothers, Robert and wife, Helen, and Richard; former husband, Alfred; and great-grandson, Dominic. She is survived by her children, Michelle (John Trout),  Alfred III (Karen Irre), Pamela Kelly (Michael), Scott (Claudia Giangrande), Dawn (John Wolfram), and Jared (Rana Taylor); her loving sister, Janet Peterson; dear family friend, Richard Lolla, Jr; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick on January 6th from 2-4pm. A Memorial Service will begin at 3:45 p.m.
