Catherine Claire Hansen, of Spring Lake, went home to the Lord peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 31, 2022. She was 75.
Claire was born in Jersey City, youngest child of the late Harold X. and Anna K. (Wright) Hansen. She was raised in Jersey City and was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Jersey City. In 1976, she moved with her parents to her family’s home in Wall Township and became an active member of St Catharine / St Margaret parish in Spring Lake. In 1999, she moved to Spring Lake, and she continued to serve her fellow St. Catharine / St. Margaret parishioners faithfully in several ministries over the years.
Following high school, Claire had a 35-year career in customer service and administrative roles for telephone companies. She started at the New York Telephone Company, later worked for New Jersey Bell, and she retired from Verizon. She was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America volunteer network for over 40 years. An active volunteer in the local New Vision Pioneers chapter, Claire held several officer positions, including serving multiple terms as President of the chapter.
Claire’s life was fraught with physical challenges from the beginning to the end. Her unwavering cheerfulness inspired everyone who knew her as she faced each new obstacle with unmatched patience, grace, and perseverance.
Claire leaves to cherish her memories her devoted sister Joanne McDonough (Patrick) of Spring Lake, her brother, Harry Hansen (Ruth) of Pinneberg, Germany, and her loving nephew and nieces Patrick McDonough, Kathy Dailey and Nina Hansen.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 9-10 a.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret's RC Church located at the Corner of 3rd and Ludlow Aves in Spring Lake, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
In observance of the Catholic period of Lent, no flowers will be allowed in the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Catharine School, Spring Lake.
