Obituary for Cathleen M. Carey (Montague)

Cathleen Montague Carey, age 81, passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune on January 3, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Cathleen was born in Passaic, NJ to the late Arthur V. and Helen O’Brien Montague and was raised in Montclair, NJ. Cathy married Edward P. Carey, Jr. on April 11, 1959. They raised their four children in Middletown, NJ where they resided for over thirty years. In 2008, they moved to Wall, NJ. Mrs. Carey was a graduate of Mount St. Dominic Academy, Caldwell, NJ and Berkeley College, East Orange, NJ.

In the 1980’s, Cathy and Ed purchased Pub Liquors, Hazlet, NJ, which they co-owned for five years. They both enjoyed winters at their home in Venice, FL, until Ed’s passing in 2011.

She is survived by her four loving children: Cathleen Carey, Keyport, NJ, Edward P. Carey III and his wife Maureen of Oradell, NJ, Timothy P. Carey of Red Bank, NJ, Susanne Frattaroli and her husband Brian of Trumbull, CT and nine loving grandchildren, Sean, Bridget and Jack Carey, Aileen and Timothy Jr. Carey, Lauren, Kristen, Kevin and Megan Frattaroli, her sister Sarah Whelan and her husband Gerard and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her beloved brother, William B. Montague.

She is deeply loved and will never be forgotten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 8th at the Church of St. Denis in Manasquan, NJ at 11:00 am. Prior to the Mass, there will be a visitation at the church at 10:00am. Interment will be private at Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
