Obituary for Cathleen McCusker

Cathleen McCusker, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.
Born in Bayonne, Cathleen was a proud alumnus of Holy Family Academy, Bayonne and a graduate of New York University (NYU). Cathleen was a retail executive with several of the large department stores along Fifth Avenue in New York City and across the country until her retirement. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East.
Cathleen was a parishioner of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, NJ where she volunteered in many ministries within the parish. She was a proud member of the Spring Lake Golf Club and enjoyed many years of competitive golf with Ruth Taigia as her golf partner. While Cathleen loved golf, she found enjoyment in watching all sports.
Cathleen was the driving force and inspiration for the Preservation Alliance of Spring Lake as well as the current President. She and her late sister Roseanne spearheaded the drive to preserve and renovate the Duggan Memorial Building the original volunteer First Aid Building, while also working closely with the Borough. Cathleen especially loved working with all her dear friends from the Preservation Alliance.
One of Cathleen’s favorite events was orchestrating an annual family reunion at her home in Spring Lake. Nothing made her happier than to see all her family, young and old together in the backyard with her cousin, Fr. Paul McCarthy celebrating Mass.
Cathleen was predeceased by her parents M. Joseph and Catherine McCarthy McCusker, her sister Roseanne M. McCusker and her two brothers Joseph and James McCusker.
She is survived by 2 nieces AnnMarie Beckmann, Barbara Weber and two nephews Joseph and Richard McCusker. As well as numerous cousins from near and far. Cathleen’s family would like to give special thanks to Maka Kakauridze for all the care and companionship she gave Cathleen over the last 6 years.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 10:30am at St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake. Please go directly to the Church on Thursday as there will not be a procession from the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.
Donations in lieu of flowers are specifically requested to be made in memory of Cathleen McCusker to her beloved Sisters of Saint Joseph, Development Office, 9701 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home on Wednesday.
