Obituary for Charles William Wellington "Charlie" Wines Jr.

Charles William Wellington Wines, Jr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022 at his home from a long battle of heart failure. Born and raised in Asbury Park, Mr. Wines has resided in Spring Lake Heights for the last 45 years. He was a proud Navy veteran, having served on the USS Forrestal (CV-59). Prior to his retirement, he worked in Sales for Sears Roebuck for 30 years.

Charlie was a huge car enthusiast. His knowledge of the 40’s 50’s and 60’s era cars was amazing. Charlie retired as the Vice President of The Antique Motoring Club of Monmouth County in 2020. He served for 8 marvelous years. Charlie owned many cars throughout his life time. He would always talk about and reminisce on a family trip he took with his mid-1960’s Volkswagen Van. The stories were funny and filled with fun family memories. Those family memories will last forever.  Within the last ten years Charlie was well known by the cars he drove. He especially loved to drive his 1974 series III Land Rover Utility Vehicle and his beautiful 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible. A people person striking conversation and making friends everywhere he went, just a true gentleman.

The Antique car world will miss him dearly.  Rest in Peace!!

He was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Charles Wines, Sr. Surviving are his loving wife, Sandy Lee Wines; children, Charles Wines, III and his wife, Kelly of Howell, Lisa Ledo and her husband, George of Holmdel, and Bobbie Michele Maguire and her husband, Michael of Neptune; sister Sharon Hoechst and her husband, Ken of Lake Worth, Florida; cherished grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, Charles; Brittany, Emily, Connor, and Amanda.

Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Charlie’s memory to The Antique Motoring Club of Monmouth County, P.O. Box 124, Little Silver, N.J.  07739. This club supports so many wonderful local charities annually.

All are welcome, casual attire please. Note to car club members (please wear car club jackets and shirts), if weather permits please honor him by bringing along your classic cars to show.
