Capt. Christopher William Hueth, 59 of Spring Lake passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
Born in Neptune, he resided in Spring Lake Heights for many years before moving to Spring Lake 32 years ago.
Chris was a renowned lifelong fisherman on the Jersey Shore, proudly owning and captaining the Big Mohawk at the Belmar Marina with his wife Kathy and family.
He was a Communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.
A dedicated family man and avid fisherman, Chris found the greatest joys in life on the water and with his family.
Chris had a zest and love for life like few others. His greatest happiness was found when working to make others happy. Whether it was customers on his boat, coaching Little League, or hosting and entertaining friends and family, Chris approached every day with incredible passion and energy. An active member of many communities, Chris and his twin brother Greg lead the Shark River Surf Anglers Children’s Trout Contest for over two decades. Some of the many other things that Chris loved in life were trips to Disney World, backyard barbeques and being a beloved member of the St. Joe’s University baseball family.
An arduous worker, he built his business on nearly half a century on the water. An advocate for his customers, Chris prided himself on being one of the best head boat captains on the Jersey Shore. Always the first boat to leave the dock and the last boat in, Chris gained legend status in the fishing industry as one of the hardest working captains on the coast.
Chris was predeceased by his parents Richard A. and Julie (Huhn) Hueth and his sister Julianne Magee.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 32 years Kathy (Lynch) Hueth, his 3 children, Christopher Hueth and wife Dr. Cheryl Stout of Red Bank, NJ, Chandler Hueth and fiancé Wish Carr of Washington, DC, Brendan Hueth of Spring Lake, NJ, his siblings Allen and Lisa Hueth of Brick, NJ, Mark Hueth of Wall, NJ, Greg and Bibiana Hueth of Wall NJ, Susan and Frank Spingler of Bethesda, MD, Barbara and John Thomas of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, and Kathy’s family; parents Jack and Josie Lynch of Lafayette Hill, PA, Jack and Melissa Lynch of Newtown Square, PA, Christy Lynch of Conshohocken, PA, Patty Lynch of New York, NY, and Susan Feffer of Arlington, VA, his 23 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.
Visitation Sunday from 2:00pm-6:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 4, 2021 in St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Private committal will follow.
Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, all gatherings in NJ are under strict capacity limitations. Guests are asked to briefly greet the family for the visitation and then exit the building allowing for other visitors. Face-coverings must be worn to enter the building. The Church has very limited seating and it is requested to allow family & other close relatives the courtesy to attend the Mass. One of Chris’s greatest loves was teaching kids about fishing. In keeping with this, his family requests no flowers be sent, but in lieu of flowers a donation be made to continue on the tradition of the Shark River Children’s Trout Tournament, c/o Greg Hueth, 2167 Gregory Place, Sea Girt, NJ 08750.
