Obituary for Claire M. McCarthy (Monaghan)

Claire M. (nee Monaghan) McCarthy, 91, of Ocean Township, NJ died Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family. The Daughter of Catharine (Joyce) and Aloysius Monaghan, Claire was born in East Orange, NJ and was a proud graduate of St. Vincent’s Academy. Claire lived in Middletown, NJ for 28 years where she was a daily communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church. Claire moved to Sea View Island, Neptune, NJ for 28 years where she was a communicant of St. Rose Roman Catholic Church. Upon moving to Spring Lake Heights and then to Ocean, Claire was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish of Spring Lake. Claire worked for Prudential Insurance Company, Newark, NJ in the Policy Department until her retirement.
Claire is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert F. McCarthy in 2015. Surviving are her six children: Kathryn (McCarthy) and her husband Dr. John McCarthy of Houston TX; Robert Jr. and his wife Deborah of Howell, NJ; Kevin and his wife Debra of Spotsylvania, VA; James and his wife Deirdre of Bluffton, SC; Clare (Weiner) and her fiancé, Stephen Colman of Ocean, NJ; and Kenneth and his wife Arda of Morganville, NJ; and her 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and by her sister, Mary Lucas of Poquoson, VA. Claire’s legacy is her family. She loved boating, traveling abroad, cruising, spending winters in Marco Island, Fla., summering in the North Carolina Outer Banks and the Jersey Shore, playing “McCarthy Family Style Solitaire”, Scrabble and was an avid New York Yankees fan!
Visitation will be Monday, August 26, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 10:30 am at St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake, NJ, with interment to follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery in Sea Girt.
