It is with extreme sadness and heartbreak that her family announces the passing of Deborah Gates O’Hearn on Wednesday, May 25 at the age of 68. Debbie was a dear wife, loving mother, adored sister, cherished friend and all round caring wonderful person.

Debbie, tried over the last several months to get back to her usual vivacious, happy-go-lucky, helpful self but because of various ailments, this was not to be.  She could not get back the strength to stay with us.  She is now resting comfortably with the “Hoboken crew”!

Debbie is pre-deceased by her parents, Ellin and Leslie Gates and her sister Barbara Gates. 

She is survived by her loving wife and soul mate of almost eight years, (and partner for almost 19 years) Suzanne O’Hearn; her two adoring daughters, Samantha Rhea and husband Art; Meagan Kane and husband Ryan Rochelle (all of whom she was extremely proud); her sister and best friend, Susan Aberer and husband Bill.  She is also survived by her extended O’Hearn family. Too numerous to mention here!! 

Debbie was a graduate of NJ City University. She was so proud and loved to be an educator. The guidance, help and support she extended to her students built long lasting contacts with them.   She was an enthusiastic teacher of science.  She served as President of the Freehold Regional High School District Teachers Union and was a very passionate leader.  Debbie was known to give a speech in a large auditorium and not need a microphone to get her thoughts and points across!!  WOW – that’s impressive!!  She loved it!!  Christmas Eve parties and backyard fire pit gatherings are never going to be the same. 

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall between the hours of 3- 7pm with a service being held at 6:30 p.m.
