Obituary for Earl J. Delle Chiaie

Earl J. Delle Chiaie, 75 of Palm Springs, FL, Spring Lake Heights, NJ and originally Leominster, MA. passed away peacefully Monday, September 26, 2022 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, West Palm Beach, FL.

Earl was a devout member of the Catholic faith and was a Communicant of St. Catharine’s-St Margaret’s, Spring Lake.  Those who knew him well knew he rarely missed a Saturday early evening mass and if he did, it had better be for a good reason! Earl proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war, and was a member of the Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Belmar for many years.

Born and raised in Leominster, MA., he had resided there until moving to the Belmar/Jersey Shore area in the 1970’s. Earl quickly became a pillar of the Belmar community working as a manager at Mary’s Husband’s Pub in the late seventies and early eighties during the famous turtle-racing days. He then went on to become part-owner in the former Paul’s Tavern on Main St., South Belmar from 1985 until retiring in 2005. Earl was known for his generosity and for treating all his employees and loyal customers just like family.  Those who knew him knew he was always willing to help those who needed it and this resulted in him donating to many charities and organizations throughout the years. It was during his time at Paul’s that he became fond of going to the Monmouth Park Racetrack, and famously used his winnings to purchase a condo in West Palm Beach, Florida, which became his full-time residence during the cold weather months. He loved his time down there and was known for his kindness and willingness to always lend a helping hand.  Whenever his neighbors needed something, they knew to just call Earl.

In later years, Earl enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he was back from Florida. He also loved going to Massachusetts to visit his sister Carol and the rest of his family there where he would often partake in a fun night of bingo. His smile, quick wit and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.

Earl was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Suzanne Groves Delle Chiaie, his parents Amedeo and Jean (nee Duffey) Delle Chiaie, his brothers Peter, Michael, Dennis, Anthony, his sisters Constance, Jacqueline, and Beverly.

Earl is survived by his devoted son Michael A. Fitzmaurice and wife Katie of Oceanport, NJ, his stepsons and their wives and children, Shaun, Carolyn, Tessa and Lily Polke of Madison, NJ and Kevin, Ann, Kevin Jr. and Phin Polke of Pittsburgh, PA, his loving siblings Carol Delle Chiaie, Jean Valliere, and Aggie Marcantonio and by his many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 3rd, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake at 10:30AM followed by interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be sent to the Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, FSOS Foundation, P.O. Box 627, Belmar, NJ 07719.
