Obituary for Edward Francis Reitz, Jr.

Edward Francis Reitz, Jr. of Tequesta, FL and Spring Lake, NJ passed peacefully at home with his beloved family by his side on July 23, 2022. Ed was born in Plainfield, NJ on June 16, 1953.

He is predeceased in death by his mother, Patricia Durick Reitz; father, Edward F. Reitz, Sr.; and sister, Patricia DiPasquale.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Sharon McNamara Reitz; his children Eric, Victoria, Ross and daughter-in-law Joanna; grandchildren Leni and Mac Edward; brother Michael and sister Karen, and his many nieces and nephews.

His career in the automotive and real estate industries spanned over 50 years. Ed was a devout communicant of Mt. Carmel in Ridgewood, NJ, St. Catharine’s in Spring Lake, NJ and St. Christopher’s in Hobe Sound, FL. An avid golfer, he loved spending time on the course, in particular Jupiter Hills Club and Manasquan River Golf Club. Ed spent his summers surfing at the Jersey Shore and winding down with family and friends at the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club. Ed would head out west once winter arrived to accomplish his goal of skiing as many days as his age that year. His many philanthropic endeavors included mentoring inner city youth in Newark, NJ.

Visitation for Ed’s cherished family and friends will be Wednesday, July 27th from 4 – 8pm at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35,Wall, NJ. Mass will be held at St. Catharine's Catholic Church in Spring Lake, NJ on Thursday, July 28th at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Benedict’s Preparatory School (sbp.org/giving) and Joan Dancy & PALS (People with ALS) Foundation (joandancyandpals.org).

Ed was someone who traveled the world, yet would trade in every adventure for a night on the patio with his family grilling steaks, drinking burgundy and listening to Frank Sinatra. Given all the personal and professional accomplishments he achieved throughout life, there was no mistake as to what he held most valuable, his treasured family and friends.
