Obituary for Edwin A. Butler

Edwin A. Butler 79 of Wall, NJ formerly of Jersey City, NJ died Monday, July 4, 2022 at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center, Neptune. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ Edwin was a graduate of St. Peter’s Prep School and St. Peter’s University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics. He began his career at Lincoln High School teaching business courses. He transferred to Snyder High School and taught there for 15 years. While at Snyder H.S., he also served as head basketball coach winning many City and County Regional championships in the 1970’s and 1980’s as well as being honored as “Coach of the Year”. He completed his teaching career teaching computer science classes at Dickinson High School retiring in 2008.

He had a love for all things sports and being a true student of the games, he remained a loyal life-long fan of the New York Giants and New York Mets in good and bad times. Throughout his life he was a voracious reader on any and all subjects especially mysteries from Conan Doyle to Harlen Coban and any writer in between as well as history and military history.  Special thanks to all the staff at Sunrise Senior Living for their care and compassion during Edwin’s time there.

Edwin was predeceased by his parents Edwin A. and Anne J. Butler. Surviving is his sister Anne E. Butler of Spring Lake, NJ and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, July 11, 2022 from 3-7 pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2022, 10:30 am at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake, NJ. Burial will follow in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.
