Hal Irwin, Jr., age 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Born in Norfolk, April 16, 1927 and raised in McLean VA. , Hal resided in Brielle and Chemung, NY prior to moving to Manasquan five years ago.
Mr. Irwin proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and then went on to graduate from Virginia Tech in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Hal owned and operated the Irwin Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Freehold, NJ, which he founded with his longtime friend George A. Wall III, in 1960.
He loved fishing, golfing, hunting and snowmobiling. He had his pilots’ license and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed drag racing, Hal was a member of the National Street Rod Association as well as the Harley Owners Group of Long Branch. He also achieved the Grand Slam of North American Sheep. During his life, Hal managed to check everything off of his bucket list, though his greatest joy was his family.
Surviving are his beloved wife and High School sweetheart, Babs Irwin, who he married on August 13, 1948; his sons, Kerry and Jay Irwin; his daughter, Shelly LoCascio and his favorite son-in-law, John LoCascio; his brothers, Richard H. and John W. Irwin; his 9 grandchildren, Jay, Kyle, Travis, Caleb, Cara, Collin, Brittany, Breanna and MaKenna; his 6 great-grandchildren, John, Gillian, MacKenzie, Ellie, Mason and Everly.
All services are private and held under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Donations may be made in his memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
