Obituary for Eileen M. Cunningham (Baston )

Eileen M. Cunningham, 94, of Manasquan passed away peacefully on Saturday April 16th at the Center for Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains.  Eileen was born in Jersey City to the late John and Mary (nee Doran) Baston.

Eileen and her husband raised their family in Irvington and Berkeley Heights. Upon her retirement from AT&T as an Assistant Marketing Director in 1996, Eileen moved to the Jersey shore.

Eileen was a devout member of the Catholic faith, and was very active in St. Mark’s Parish, Sea Girt, where she served on the Social Concerns Committee.  She also volunteered at the Thrift Shop at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, and Meals on Wheels in Summit and at the Jersey shore.

Eileen’s passions were gardening, traveling, volunteering, and spending treasured time at the beach with her many friends and loving family.  She had an upbeat personality and always saw the best in others.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband John J. Cunningham in 1981, as well as her six cherished siblings.

Surviving are her devoted children: Eileen Cunningham of Summit, Joyce Infante of Warren, Joan Kormash of Bridgewater, Kathleen Ascensao (Jack) of Montville, John J. Cunningham, III (Celia) of Readington, Eugene R. Cunningham (Mary) of San Diego, CA.  She also leaves nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd, Wall, NJ.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday April 21st at 9:30AM at St. Mark’s Church, 215 Crescent Pkwy, Sea Girt.  Interment will be in Saint Teresa’s Cemetery in Summit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Marks Social Concerns Committee at 215 Crescent Pkwy, Sea Girt, NJ.
