Eugene “Gene” J. Darke, Sr., age 92 of Lakewood, NJ passed away on April 5, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Port Monmouth, and lived in Fanwood before moving to the Four Seasons in Lakewood 26 years ago.

Eugene is predeceased by his wife Gloria Darke in 2021, and son John Darke in 2018.

He worked for Western Electric as a manager for many years. Gene’s early retirement from Western Electric allowed them to enjoy many years of travel. From Australia to Europe and many island vacations; they enjoyed sightseeing and beautiful beaches. Always stopping in local churches while traveling, they were blessed with good weather wherever they went. For many years Gene and Gloria enjoyed wintering in Naples, Florida where they made many good friends. In their 26 years at Four Season, Gene enjoyed the golf course often playing six days a week. He won the club Golf Championship twice and golfed until his 92nd birthday.

He is survived by his son Eugene J. Darke, Jr., wife Joanna, daughters, Linda Darke Swaynos, husband Don and Lisa Bakanas, husband Stephen, and grandchildren Donald Swaynos (Nerea Feliz), Victoria Swaynos, Rebecca and Brendan Darke, Neal, Ian and Luke Bakanas and great grandson Nicholas Swaynos Feliz.
