Filomena
"Phyllis"
Zampetti
(Ambrosio)
Filomena “Phyllis” Zampetti passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Born on January 3, 1941, Phyllis grew up in Jersey City, NJ. At age 16, she met the love of her life and future husband Blase. Together, they lit up every dance floor in Jersey City, Bayonne, and Hoboken.
Ever chic and stylish, and a beauty school graduate, Phyllis opened a salon on Staten Island. She would later sell her business to raise her two young children in Port Reading. After many years in the beauty industry, Phyllis retired her scissors and took great pride in becoming a Teamster, loading trucks for UPS.
In 1998, Phyllis, along with her husband and son, settled at Seaview on Shark River Island in Neptune, NJ. Those who had the pleasure of being invited to her home for dinner, understand why she was called the “MacGyver” of the kitchen as they undoubtedly left impressed and stuffed by the multi-course gourmet fare served. She loved all animals, even more than she loved dancing, and never shunned an opportunity to pet or snuggle a furry creature. Her grandson was the apple of her eye and the two were often spotted wrestling around the house. Even as a senior citizen, she had amazing moves that were almost as impressive as her cartwheels.
Filomena was predeceased by her husband, Blase, in 2019 and their son, Blase, III, in 2021. She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Gina and Ben Ruela, her grandson, Giuseppe Ruela, her sister, Theresa Reinhardt, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, NJ 07719 on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A private interment will follow where she will be laid to rest with her husband and son. The family welcomes memorial donations in lieu of flowers to either the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) or Southern Paws Animal Rescue.
