Obituary for Francis L. "Frank" Schmidt Jr.

Francis L. “Frank” Schmidt, Jr., 77, of Point Pleasant passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Mr. Schmidt was a middle school and high school science teacher for the New York City Department of Education in Staten Island, NY before retiring in 1991. He then went on to become a successful self-employed Investment Broker until retiring again at the age of 75. Mr. Schmidt was a graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island. He also earned two Master’s degrees in Physics and Science from Amherst College in Amherst, MA. He proudly served his country in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary based out of the Manasquan Inlet. His love of the ocean and boating led him to teach the Boating Safety courses to the students within the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also was an avid tennis player.
Born in Fairlawn, he grew up in the Oakwood Heights section of Staten Island and lived in the Eltingville section of Staten Island before moving to Point Pleasant in 1998.
Surviving are his wife, Maryann (Marullo) Martini-Schmidt of 31 years; 4 sons, Steven Schmidt and his wife, Sylvia of El Paso, TX; Kenneth Schmidt, Sr. and his wife, Sylvia of Rich Lands, VA, Robert Martini and his wife, Kim of Old Bridge and Michael Martini of Staten Island; brother, Robert Schmidt and his wife, Josephine of Sandy Hook, CT; sister, Carol Hammer and her husband, Arthur of Mystic, CT; and 4 grandchildren, Kenneth, Jr., Kayla, Michael, and Alyssa. He was predeceased by his son, John Martini in 1998.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service will be conducted on Thursday 10am in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Donations may be made in his memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering, NY, NY.
