Obituary for Fredric Manger II

Fredric Manger II, 77 of Spring Lake Heights passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank after a brief but valiant battle with lung cancer.

Fred was born in Freeport, NY to the late Fredric and Doris (nee Palk) Manger. He spent his early years on Long Island and then lived in New Hampshire, where he attended The Daycroft School, got his Bachelor of Science from New England College and did graduate work at The University of New Hampshire. He then lived and worked in New York City where he met Ellen, the love of his life. They were married and lived in Hackensack, NJ before moving to Spring Lake Heights 40 years ago to raise their family.

Fred spent his early career in Finance, working in wealth management for firms including PaineWebber and UBS. He later transitioned to owning and operating his own boutique design and build firm where he worked with natural resources, such as stone and wood, to create beautiful and functional spaces.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Ellen (nee Patri) Manger, and his 2 beloved daughters Jennifer Manger of San Francisco, CA and Whitney (nee Manger) Littlewood and husband Simon of Pacifica, CA and their 2 children Percie Rose and Hazel Skye Littlewood.

Fred was well known and loved in the community. He was a member of the Spring Lake Heights Board of Adjustment for 13 years as well as 6 years on the Planning Board. He was also a well known realtor in the local area, working for Diane Turton Agency, Sea Girt office where he helped many people find their dream homes.

Fred was known for his gigantic smile, his open mind, his love for food and travel, and his devotion to his family. He was a talented pen and ink artist with a passion for architecture and spent memorable summers in Western Europe seeking chateaus to study and draw while enjoying the best local bistros along the way. He was an avid skier his whole life and spent winters on the slopes in Canada and lazy summer days at North End.

He was an artist, a visionary and a humanitarian who lived an adventure filled life full of love and laughter. He marched to the beat of his own drum and savored in the simple things in life - sharing espressos with friends, patio BBQs with his granddaughters and sunset walks on the boardwalk hand in hand with Ellen. He was a bright light universally loved by all who knew him.

The Manger family will receive friends on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, with readings and memorial at 3pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in memory of Fred to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for children with cancer.
