Obituary for Gene Onley Carpenter

RUMSON - Gene Onley Carpenter, 85, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Concord Healthcare and Rehab in Lakewood, NJ. Born on February 19, 1936 in Wildie, Kentucky, to the late Neiman Carpenter and Evlyna Mullins, where he grew up in Norfolk, Virginia before joining the Navy in 1954.

Transferring to the Army, while serving in Turkey, he was awarded a marksmanship badge as an Expert. While stationed at Fort Monmouth, he met the love of his life, Madelyn Desmond, and there he remained in Rumson. He was a technician for Sears and Roebuck, Neptune until his retirement. Because of his military service, he was an avid gun collector, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and riding his Harley as well as enjoyed spending time with his family.

Gene was predeceased by his wife Madeline in 2011, his sister Diane Fluke this April, and his brother David Wayne in 1967. Surviving are his children, Debra Polizois and her husband Steve, Oceanport; Gail Teresa Carpenter, Brookville, PA; Michael Gene and his wife Jackie, Bricktown; and David Wayne, Laurence Harbor. Eight grandchildren Aaron, Andrea, Jessica, Chrissy, Stephanie, Michele, and Michael and five great grandchildren Des, Dominic, Ava, Cullen and Gracie.
