George R. “Roy” Matthews 82 of Spring Lake Heights, NJ passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Neptune and raised in South Belmar, Roy was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1971. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #27 and employed by Laursen Sheet Metal for 35 years retiring in 1996.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Catherine Matthews, beloved brother and best friend Frank in 2013, his loving sister Verna on Oct. 25, 2020 and his nephew Raymond Tolmie. Roy was an avid motorcyclist and Nascar fan. He enjoyed listening to oldies music and having lunch and drinks at many local establishments with his brother, where they were known as “The Brothers”, his sons and his friends.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, beloved sons Roy and his wife Joanne of Wall, Michael and his wife Gloria of Pt. Pleasant, stepdaughter Debra Neri of Florida, most beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Jacqueline, Nicolette, Allison and Daniel Schulze. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Sharon Boker and her husband Sheldon of Oakhurst, Joyce Tripp of Florida, niece Catherine De Marco and her husband Nick and loving cat Adele.
Visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2020 from 11 am until 1 pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 Wall, NJ. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home, followed by burial in Glendola Cemetery, Wall. To send condolences visit www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
